Supradip pays tributes at funeral ceremony of Dr Jnanasree in Raozan

CHATTOGRAM, Jan 30, 2026 (BSS) - The national funeral ceremony of the 13th Sangharaj, Aggamahapandit Dr Jnanasree Mahasthabir, was held today at the field adjacent to the West Binajuri cremation ground in Raozan upazila of Chattogram. 

Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs Adviser Supradip Chakma was present on the occasion as the chief guest, said an official handout.

Speaking on the occasion, the adviser said Dr. Dr Jnanasree Mahasthabir was not only a religious leader of the Buddhist community but also a beacon of humanity, peace, and secular values. 

"With his demise, the nation has lost a wise guardian. His life and philosophy teach us patience, friendship, and compassion, which are extremely relevant in the present time," said Supradip.

The adviser mentioned Dr Jnanasree devoted his entire life to serving suffering humanity and promoting education. Following the path he showed would be the truest way to pay tribute to him, he said. 

The adviser recalled the eventful life of the late Sangharaj and prayed for his attainment of Nirvana.

Thousands of devotees, members of the Buddhist monastic community, and distinguished personalities from different parts of the country attended the funeral ceremony. Later in the evening, the final rites of Sangharaj Dr Jnanasree Mahasthabir were performed in accordance with religious traditions.
