
DHAKA, Feb 10, 2026 (BSS) – Disaster Management and Relief Adviser Faruk E Azam, Bir Protik, said today that integrated capacity building for disaster management could be a key tool for achieving sustainable solutions.
He made the remarks while delivering a speech as the chief guest at the handover ceremony of disaster-capacity equipment to the Armed Forces Division (AFD) under Phase 3 of the Project for Procurement of Equipment for Search, Rescue Operations and Emergency Communication during Earthquakes and Other Disasters.
The Directorate of Disaster Management organized the programme at the 14th Independent Engineer Brigade in Dhaka Cantonment.
Appreciating the AFD’s outstanding role in protecting lives and property and ensuring rapid post-disaster recovery in the disaster-prone country, the adviser said, “I firmly believe that this equipment will make the armed forces faster, more effective and safer during disasters.”
He added that the equipment would play a significant role in rescue operations, especially in remote and high-risk areas, and would further enhance the forces’ capabilities.
Under the reforms of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, all disaster-related activities will be coordinated with the ministry in a central role.
Among the notable equipment transferred under the project are three heavy dozers (48-ton capacity), three dozers (20-ton capacity), and three forklifts. The adviser said the equipment is highly capable, durable, and suitable for continuous operation in disaster situations.
AFD’s Principal Staff Officer (PSO) Lt. Gen. SM Kamrul Hasan, Secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief Md Saidur Rahman Khan, and Director General of the Directorate of Disaster Management Rezwanur Rahman also spoke at the event.
Earlier, the adviser handed over the keys of the vehicles to be used in rescue operations.
