
KHULNA, Feb 10 (BSS) - Forest guards detained 25 fishermen along with two
trawlers and seized around 400 kilograms of illegally caught parshe fish fry
from the Sundarbans.
The detainees were identified as Imran Gazi, Gani Sheikh, Sahabuddin Sheikh,
Enamul Sheikh, Habibur Sheikh, Jubayer Mistri, Sirajul Sheikh, Amirul Sheikh,
Rahman Sheikh and Mohasin Mistri.
According to Forest Department sources, a patrol team led by Forester Dilip
Majumder, officer-in-charge of the Bogi Forest Station under the Sundarbans
East Forest Division, intercepted a trawler on the Baleswar River late Monday
night while it was returning from the forest.
During a search, the forest guards recovered about 150 kilograms of parshe
fish fry from the trawler and detained 10 fishermen. They were taken to the
Sharankhola Range Office on Tuesday morning.
They hail from Dakop and Paikgacha upazilas of Khulna district. Forest
officials said the fishermen were transporting the illegally caught fish fry
towards Paikgacha under the cover of night.
In a separate operation on Monday afternoon, forest guards detained 15 more
fishermen with 250 kilograms of parshe fish fry in the Kokilmoni area of the
Sundarbans.
Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) of the Sharankhola Range Mohammad
Shariful Islam said legal action is being taken against the detained
fishermen for illegally catching fish fry in the rivers of the Sundarbans.
