Japan hails credible polls, congratulates BNP victory

DHAKA, Feb 16, 2026 (BSS) – Japan today appreciated the credible conduct of Bangladesh’s 13th parliamentary elections and congratulated the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its Chairman Tarique Rahman on their electoral victory.

In a message issued by the Embassy of Japan in Dhaka, the government of Japan said “We wholeheartedly appreciate the credible conduct of the 13th parliamentary elections by the people of Bangladesh.”

The embassy extended “sincere congratulations to all the political parties and leaders, particularly to the BNP and its Chairman, Mr. Tarique Rahman, for their victory.”

Japan also expressed hope for the “smooth and peaceful formation of a new government” and conveyed its intention to further advance the existing Strategic Partnership between the two countries.

The message underscored Tokyo’s continued engagement with Dhaka in strengthening bilateral cooperation across key areas of mutual interest.
