Dhaka seeks beneficial ties with every country: FM

DHAKA, Feb 23 (BSS) - Foreign Minister (FM) Dr. Khalilur Rahman today said Dhaka seeks to build mutually beneficial relations with every country and strengthen partnerships on the basis of equality and respect, while firmly upholding national sovereignty and non-interference principles.

He made the remarks while speaking to reporters after meetings with envoys of different countries at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs here.

The Foreign Minister said the government has begun consultations with Bangladesh's ambassadors posted abroad to brief them on the outline of its foreign policy.

"Our motto is 'Bangladesh First'. Above all will be Bangladesh," he said, adding, "We will protect our independence and sovereignty, we will not interfere in each other's internal affairs, and our policies will be based on mutual interests and national dignity."

Khalilur Rahman said Dhaka is committed to fostering mutually beneficial relations with all countries and enhancing cooperation grounded in equality and mutual respect.

He informed that he has, so far, met the envoys of Saudi Arabia, China, India, Pakistan, the United States and the European Union (EU). 

Dr Rahman said that the envoys expressed deep confidence in the new government and a strong willingness to work closely with Bangladesh.

The Foreign Minister voiced hope that Bangladesh would be able to deepen ties with countries in the region and other friendly nations across the globe.

Reiterating the government's stance, he said Bangladesh would safeguard its sovereignty while maintaining friendly relations and resolve all issues respectfully on the basis of mutual dignity.

He described the meetings held, so far, as cordial and constructive, adding that more detailed discussions on specific issues would follow in due course as part of a dynamic foreign policy drive.
