School student rescued in swift operation in Ramna after PM's Intervention

DHAKA, Feb 26, 2026 (BSS) - In a swift and coordinated operation, police rescued a school student who had been abducted from Ramna area of the capital and arrested four individuals allegedly involved in the crime following the instruction of the Prime Minister.

The victim, Afnan Sayeed, was kidnapped on February 24 at approximately 2:35 pm from in front of the Bata showroom at Al Medina Palace in Shantinagar intersection area of Siddheshwari under Ramna Model Police Station, a police press release said.

According to police sources, one of the accused lured the victim with the promise of a meeting and later took him to the second floor of the under-construction 10-storey DOM-INNO building in Chamilibagh. 

There, the kidnappers allegedly demanded Taka 50,000 in ransom from the victim's mother using the victim's mobile phone. 

They also contacted his father through a bKash number, threatening to kill the student if the ransom was not paid.

The victim's father, who works at the Secretariat sought assistance from the Prime Minister. 

Following this, the Prime Minister instructed senior law enforcement officials to take immediate action to rescue the student.

Acting on the directive, Ramna Model Police launched a rapid rescue operation. 

Using intelligence inputs and technological tracking, officers identified the location of the suspects and conducted raids at various locations across the capital on Wednesday night. 

The arrested individuals have been identified as Tanvir Ahmed alias Fahim (24), Iffat Yamin Likhon (23), Hasan Al Banna alias Hasan (20) and Mustakimur Rahman alias Kunj (21).

Police successfully rescued the victim during the drive.

During preliminary interrogation, investigators learned that the accused were allegedly involved in at least six previous kidnapping incidents. Multiple cases are reportedly pending against them. 

Police said the group used digital platforms to cheat, blackmail, and abduct victims subsequently demanding ransom.

Legal proceedings against the arrested individuals are currently underway.
