
DHAKA, March 01, 2026 (BSS)- In response to a recent surge in mosquito infestation, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has launched a month-long special cleanliness and crash program aimed at mosquito control.
DSCC Administrator Abdus Salam formally launched the campaign at Ward no 71 and 72.
State Minister for Road Transport and Highways Division and Railways Ministry Habibur Rashid attended the event as special guest.
Inaugurating the drive Abdus Salam said month-long special cleanliness and crash program has been launched to strengthen mosquito control efforts. To ensure transparency and accountability, a four-tier monitoring system has been introduced at different levels.
He also said local Imams will be engaged to raise public awareness alongside miking in the affected areas.
He warned that if the residents fail to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds, mobile courts will be conducted by the executive magistrates.
The administrator urged the local Members of Parliament (MPs) and political leaders to actively participate in the drive.
State Minister Habibur Rashid emphasized on the need for special attention to underdeveloped and underserved areas of the city.
He assured that the government would extend full support to the city corporation in reclaiming and freeing canals from encroachments which are known as mosquito breeding grounds.
Around 250 workers from DSCC’s waste management and health departments took part in the drive which began at 9:00 am. They cleaned canals, drains, sewerage line and footpaths and applied mosquito control chemicals.
A public awareness rally was also held with the participation of local residents and members of BD Clean.
DSCC Chief Executive Officer Md. Zahirul Islam, Chief Waste Management Officer Air Commodore Md. Mahbubur Rahman Talukder, along with the heads of different departments and local leaders, were present.
