DHAKA, Mar 18, 2026 (BSS)- Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has issued a 16-point directive to ensure emergency healthcare services in hospitals during the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays.

At the same time, all government hospitals across the country have been instructed to keep their emergency departments, labour rooms, emergency surgeries, laboratories, blood banks, CT scan, and MRI services operational round the clock.

DGHS issued the order today which included ensuring round-the-clock presence of doctors in emergency departments by deploying additional physicians as needed.

The order also asked for keeping emergency departments, labour rooms, emergency operation theatres, labs, blood banks, CT scan, and MRI services open 24/7 and coordinating leave of staff before and after Eid to ensure adequate manpower and uninterrupted services.

Civil Surgeons may coordinate essential manpower within districts during holidays, informing divisional directors.

Emergency lab and X-ray services must remain active in medical college hospitals, specialized hospitals, district hospitals, and upazila health complexes. Specialist doctors should remain on-call at the upazila level.

Ensure sufficient stock of medicines, IV fluids, chemical reagents, and surgical supplies before holidays, with responsible staff remaining present locally.

Keep ambulance services operational at all times.

Ensure quality food for patients on Eid day and exchange greetings with them.

Outpatient departments must not remain closed for more than 72 consecutive hours.

For private clinics or hospitals:

Emergency and maternity services must remain open under registered doctors.
Provide necessary primary treatment and in-transit care before referring patients.
Ensure ambulance support for referred patients.

Immediately inform the DGHS control room about any disaster or unexpected incident.
