DHAKA, March 25, 2026 (BSS) – Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh Alexander Khozin has congratulated Bangladesh on its 55th Independence Day, praising its development achievements and reaffirming commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation.

In a congratulatory message, the envoy extended heartfelt greetings to the people of Bangladesh, marking the historic declaration of independence on March 26, 1971, which initiated the country’s journey towards sovereignty.

He noted that Bangladesh’s liberation struggle was rooted in the people’s deep attachment to their language, culture and aspiration for self-determination, ultimately leading to the emergence of an independent nation.

Highlighting Bangladesh’s achievements, the ambassador said the country has made remarkable progress as a sovereign state, establishing strong industrial capacity and emerging as a global leader in the textile sector, while maintaining impressive economic growth even during global crises.

He also commended Bangladesh’s rich natural and cultural heritage, including the Sundarbans, the world’s largest mangrove forest and its globally recognized cultural traditions.

Referring to Bangladesh’s growing international role, he said the country has gained recognition as a voice of the Global South and remains a leading contributor to UN peacekeeping operations.

Recalling historical ties, the ambassador mentioned that the former Soviet Union was among the first countries to recognize Bangladesh in 1972 and contributed to its early reconstruction, including mine-clearing operations at Chattogram port.

He expressed hope that Bangladesh-Russia relations would further expand through joint projects and mutually beneficial initiatives under the new government.

The ambassador wished continued success, peace and prosperity for the people of Bangladesh.
