Genocide Day-2026 observed in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Mar 25, 2026 (BSS) - The National Genocide Day-2026 was observed in the district today in remembrance of the brutality carried out by Pakistani Army on the unarmed Bengalis on the black night of March 25 in 1971.
 
 The  district administration organized the programme in the morning featuring a discussion meeting on the significance of the day at the auditorium of Zilla Shilpakala Academy here with Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Masudur Rahman in the chair.
  
Superintendent of police (SP) Md. Jashim Uddin, president of BNP district unit, Professor Dr. Moinul Hasan Sadik, general secretary Mahadunnabi Titul and freedom fighter Abdul Mazid addressed the function among others.
  
The speakers  in their speeches said the genocide carried out by Pakistani occupational forces on March 25 is a brutal and grievous incident in the history of Bengali nation.
  
The atrocities that started on the black night of March 25 and killed at least 10,000 unarmed Bengalis of Dhaka city, they also said.
  
A large number of people including district level officials, NGO activists, political leaders, cultural personality, teachers, students and journalists attended the programme.
 
 Similar programmes were held in other upazila headquarters of the district  marking the day.
