Govt takes zero-tolerance policy against child marriage: Dulu

LALMONIRHAT, April 4 (BSS) - Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu today said that the government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against child marriage under any circumstances.

"Stern legal action will be taken against those involved in such irregularities," he said at a discussion held at the conference room of Lalmonirhat Circuit House here as the chief guest.

The meeting was organized with registered Muslim Nikah registrars and Hindu marriage registrars of the district.

"Marriage at an early age will not be tolerated under any circumstances. If anyone assists in registering such marriages for financial gain, strict action will be taken against them. You have to ensure proper verification of age," he said.

He emphasized on the need to introduce digital systems to make the marriage registration process easier, more transparent and updated.

The minister said that ensuring proper registration according to the rules will help maintain social order and protect women's rights. 

District Commissioner of Lalmonirhat Mohammad Rashedul Haque chaired the meeting where Lalmonirhat Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mononita Das and officials concerned from the district Kazis' association were present.

The meeting, organized by the district Kazis' association, was attended by all Nikah registrars and Hindu marriage registrars of the district. Various aspects of making the marriage registration system more effective, transparent and modern were discussed.
