JOYPURHAT, April 4, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Public Administration and Food, Md. Abdul Bari, has announced that steps will be taken to establish a medical college in Joypurhat, citing the district's adequate infrastructure.

The minister made the remarks today while addressing a meeting of the management committee at the Joypurhat District Modern Hospital.

He said the discussions would be held with the Prime Minister to initiate the process of setting up the medical college.

Highlighting public health concerns, Abdul Bari noted a rise in measles cases across districts following the COVID-19 pandemic and urged doctors to remain vigilant.

He also stressed the importance of ensuring quality healthcare services at district hospitals, upazila family planning clinics, and union community clinics.

During the meeting, it was proposed that a 500-bed hospital and a medical college be established in the district, given its existing facilities.

The minister also pointed out that several critical medical services-including ICU units, CT scan machines, and dialysis equipment-remain unused due to a shortage of skilled technicians.

He assured that necessary technicians would be recruited soon to make these services operational.

Later, Abdul Bari held a meeting with heads of various government departments at the Joypurhat Circuit House auditorium.

He later visited the district food warehouse, where he exchanged views with food department officials.

Considering Joypurhat as a food-surplus district, he instructed authorities to select suitable land for constructing new silos or food storage facilities.

The minister also inspected the deteriorating condition of a bypass road in the Kashiabari area of the town.

In the afternoon, he attended a views-exchange meeting with leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party at the Joypurhat Sugar Mill auditorium.

Later, he visited Punot Union in Kalai Upazila to attend a doa mahfil at the residence of late Shahinur Islam, general secretary of the union BNP.

Local political leaders, including district council administrator and senior BNP leader Masud Rana Pradhan, were present during the events.
