DHAKA, April 04, 2026 (BSS)- Survey of Bangladesh, under the Ministry of Defense, has taken initiative to determine the determine the highest peak of the country’s mountains.

In view of this the department will conduct survey in the Ruma and Thanchi upazilas of Bandarban district, according to ISPR.

The survey using modern geodetic methods and advanced Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) technology will continue from April 4 to 12, 2026, it said.

The Survey will follow international standards to determine the height of the country’s highest peak above mean sea level (MSL).

The objective of the survey is to ensure centimeter-level accuracy in determining the latitude, longitude, and elevation above mean sea level of the highest peak, it added.

Surveyor General Brigadier General Nur-e-Alam Mohammad Zobayer Sarwar will lead the survey operation and Deputy Director (Survey) Debashish Sarker and in-charge of the Geodetic Detachment will supervise it.

The team will remain stationed in Thanchi and Ruma while measuring the elevations of various hills.

Through the use of a newly developed Geoid Model, it will be possible to accurately convert ellipsoid heights obtained from GNSS receivers into mean sea level (MSL) elevations of the mountain peaks.

The survey is expected to resolve the long-standing debate over whether Tajingdong, Keokradong, or Saka Haphong is the highest mountain peak of the country.
