JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, Apr 5, 2026 (BSS) - The Public Health Forum of the Public Health and Informatics (PHI) Department at Jahangirnagar University will observe World Health Day-2026 on April 7 with a series of day-long programmes aimed at promoting health awareness and collective responsibility.

This year’s theme, “Together for Health, Stand with Science,” highlights the importance of collective action in addressing global health challenges and emphasizes reliance on scientific evidence and data-driven approaches, said PHI Department Chairman Associate Professor Dr Md Shakhaoat Hossain at a press conference held at the department this afternoon.

He added that lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic and emerging issues such as climate change have reinforced the need for united efforts and trust in science to tackle public health crises.

The day’s activities will begin at 6:00 am with a “Run for Health” programme, followed by a “Clean for Health” campaign at 8:00 am across different parts of the campus, including the Shaheed Minar area, administrative premises and departmental surroundings.

A rally will be brought out at 10:00 am from the department premises with participation of the vice-chancellor, teachers, students and officials, which will conclude at the auditorium premises.

A tree plantation programme will also be held at 12:30 pm at selected areas of the campus to promote environmental sustainability and health awareness.

Later, a health-focused debate competition will take place at the Senate Hall with participation from teams of the department and the Jahangirnagar University Research Society.

In the afternoon, an art competition for children will be arranged at the auditorium premises to encourage creative expression on health awareness.

Dr Shakhaoat said the initiative aims to engage the wider university community and raise awareness across the country about maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The programme is being supported by Unico Hospital as sponsor.
