DHAKA, Apr 9, 2026 (BSS) - The Ministry of Home Affairs has formulated comprehensive law enforcement and security arrangements for the upcoming Bangla New Year, as well as for the traditional New Year celebrations of various ethnic communities, including the Chakma, Marma, Tripura, and Garo.

The outline was finalised today at a high-level meeting chaired by Senior Secretary Manzur Morshed Chowdhury.

Speaking at the meeting, the home secretary emphasized the importance of ensuring a festive, peaceful, and orderly environment across the country.

He stressed that all measures must reflect respect for Bangladesh’s rich cultural heritage while prioritising public safety.

Officials outlined a series of coordinated initiatives involving law enforcement and administrative agencies to ensure that all celebrations conclude smoothly by the evening.

Police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), and other security forces will be deployed at key event venues, including Boishakhi processions, fairs, cultural programmes, and exhibitions in major cities such as Dhaka, Chattogram, and Sylhet, as well as in the three hill districts.

Special security arrangements will be implemented at prominent locations in the capital, including Dhaka University, Ramna Park, Suhrawardy Udyan, Hatirjheel, and Rabindra Sarobar.

These measures include controlled entry points, installation of watchtowers, CCTV surveillance, and deployment of emergency response teams.

Authorities will also launch public awareness campaigns highlighting prohibited items such as fireworks, balloons, and masks, along with guidelines for traffic management around event areas.

To enhance public convenience, organisers will set up lost-and-found centres, temporary toilets, dustbins, and drinking water facilities, while ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply during the celebrations.

The meeting further underscored the importance of close coordination among local administration, law enforcement agencies, cultural organisations, and volunteers to effectively manage crowds and maintain overall safety during the festivities.
