
DHAKA, April 8, 2026 (BSS) – Veteran journalist Kamal Uddin Shabuj today joined as the Managing Director and Chief Editor of national news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) a day after he was entrusted with the charge of the state-run wire service.
“We will have to work with professional commitment, discipline, and integrity,” he said after assuming the charge, in an interaction with BSS journalists and employees.
Shabuj, who previously served most part of his nearly 40-year-long career in BSS, assured the newsmen and the other staff of his all out support in discharging their duties.
He said he was personally committed to brightening the image of the national news agency even in international arena with everyone’s collective support “as long as I am here”.

“You will always find me beside you as your former and present colleague in your professional capacity, Insha’Allah,” he said.
He wished the well-being of the families of BSS journalists and staff and sought divine blessings for their social and professional lives.
Earlier, the BSS journalists and employees received him with a warm welcome gesture while he visited different sections of the news agency after assuming the charge.
The government yesterday issued a gazette notification appointing him as the new BSS chief on contractual basis under Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha Act, 2018.
Better known as Shabuj in the community, his official name is Md Kamal Uddin Mozumder, who previously served BSS for 31 years and retired from the news agency as the news editor in 2023.
He then joined the Dainik Desh Rupantor and prior to his new appointment was serving the private newspaper as its chief editor.
During his career in BSS, he also served in the reporting team with various assignments including the task of covering former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia for some 10 years.
His assignments required him also to widely travel abroad as a political, diplomatic, economic, and parliament correspondent while he covered several global events.
The visits brought him in touch with global figures like Nelson Mandela, Yasser Arafat, Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton, Rajiv Gandhi, Benazir Bhutto, Nawaz Sharif, Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, Hu Jintao, and Wen Jiabao, Hosni Mubarak, Suharto, Megawati Sukarnoputri, Boutros Boutros-Ghali and Kofi Annan.
His career also earned him the scope of engagement with the Sultan of Brunei, Amir of Qatar, and monarchs and heads of state of Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Nepal, and Bhutan.
Known for his devotion for press freedom and democratic rights, Shabuj is a frequent commentator on television and speaker at international seminars while his professional engagements earned him a repute of being a mentor of new generation journalists.
He served twice as the elected President and General Secretary of the Jatiya Press Club.
Shabuj made his debut in the profession as a staff reporter of now defunct Daily News in 1985 and later joined the private United News of Bangladesh (UNB) news agency where he served from 1988 to 1991, when he joined BSS.
He was born at his maternal grandfather’s home at Daktar Para in Feni town while he hails from a respected family with Sultan Ahmed Mozumder and Jebun Naher Begum of Banshpara village at Chhagalnaiya upazila in Feni being his parents.
He obtained his graduation with Honours in English literature and language from University of Chittagong, from where he also secured his masters degree on the same discipline in 1984.
