
CHATTOGRAM, April 08, 2026 (BSS)- MV Banglar Joyjatra, a Bangladeshi flag carrier which remained stranded for 28 days at a Saudi Arabian port in Persian gulf due to raising Middle East tension, has started moving towards Hormuz Strait to pass the strategic sea routes today.
Managing Director of BSC Commodore Mahmudul Malek confirmed the latest development of the BSC vessel at a press briefing on Wednesday morning.
The Bangladeshi general cargo carrier loaded with around 37 metric tonnes of fertilizer with 31 crew staffs onboard, has de-anchored Saudi Port -Ras Al Khair to cross the Hormuz Strait for its next destination port- Cape Town in South Africa.
The Banglar Joyjatra started moving just after announcement of ceasefire between Iran and USA-Israel war on Wednesday morning.
Sources said the vessel needs at least 40 hours to reach at estuary of Hormuz Strait.
“We have directed the ship officials to stay at a safe point before entering the much-tensed sea route and to pass the area after getting clearance from Iran and based on the prevailing situation there” BSC MD stated.
As per information revealed by Marine Traffic, an international maritime watchdog, the Bangladeshi vessel was moving at a speed of 9.5 nautical miles per hour through Persian gulf at 2 am today.
BSC sources said Banglar Joyjatra loaded with general cargo had left an Indian port and entered Parsian Gulf through passing Hormuz Strait on February 2 last and reached at Jabel Ali Port of UAE from a port in Qutar on February 27 but it remained stranded at a port in Saudi Arabia port for last 28 days where the vessel was staying considering safest place.
“There is an issue of getting NOC from relevant insurance company and we hope we will get the clearance certificate for further movement from the company in the meantime as Iran is lenient on movement of Bangladeshi ships” Mahmudul Malek said.
