
SANGSAD BHABAN, April 8, 2026 (BSS) – Lawmakers today said the government has started implementing most of its electoral pledges quickly after coming to power.
The present government led by BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has taken initiatives to fulfill most of its electoral pledges shortly after coming to power, they said.
The lawmakers made the comments while taking part in the discussion on thanks giving motion on the President’s speech held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban here with Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal in the chair.
“It is unprecedented that the present BNP government has taken initiative to implement its electoral pledges immediately after coming to power and most of the pledges are now coming under implementation,” said BNP lawmaker Anwarul Huq of Netrokona-2.
The lawmaker praised the speech of the President who has recognized Begum Khaleda Zia as the founder of parliamentary democracy in his speech.
The first session of the 13th parliament began on March 12 with President Mohammed Shahabuddin delivering his address.
The Business Advisory Committee later fixed 50 hours for discussion on the speech.
Chief Whip Md Nurul Islam moved the motion of thanks on the President’s address, which was seconded by Whip Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu.
Even a total of 15 lawmakers took part in the discussion and they also highlighted various issues including infrastructural needs in their respective areas alongside the implementation of the election manifestoes made by the present government.
Focusing on the comment made by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman after arriving in the country on December 25 last year that “I have a plan …we have a plan for the people of the country”, another BNP lawmaker SM Jahangir Hossain of Dhaka-18 said the present government has already started work in line with this plan.
Noting that the electoral manifesto which was announced by the BNP, ruling party lawmaker Mobasser Alam Bhuiyan of Cumilla-10 said a 180-day action plan has already been formulated by all the ministries, divisions and the departments aiming to implement the electoral manifestoes for the next five years.
Under the electoral manifestoes, he said the present government has distributed family card among 37,814 women-headed families at thirteen wards under 15 districts across the country primarily.
Even the government also has given honorarium to 9102 beneficiaries of different places of worship across the country. The government also has a plan to excavate at least 20,000 kilometers canals in the next five years.

Taking part in the discussion, opposition lawmaker M Rashedul Islam of Sherpur-1 called the government to work implementing all the reform programmes which were jointly agreed by the political parties for betterment of the country. Otherwise, the country will again go back to the backward position, he added.
BNP lawmakers Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury of Moulvibazar-4, M Khaled Hossen Mahbub of Brahmanbaria-3,Shah Mohammad Wares Ali Mamun of Jamalpur-5, Mazharul Islam of Kishorganj-1, M Shariqur Rahman Kiron of Shariatpur-2, Abu Mansur Sakhawat Hasan of Habiganj-2, Ainul Huque of Sirajganj-3, National Citizen Party (NCP) lawmaker Abdullah Al Amin of Narayanganj-4, Jamaat-e-Islami lawmakers M Zahirul Islam of Chattogram-16 and Al Faruque Abdul Latif of Nilphamari-2, also took part in the discussion.
The lawmakers also paid rich tribute to BNP founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, uncompromising leader and three times Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia and also to the martyrs who had sacrificed their lives during the War of Independence in 1971 and the July uprising in 2024.
