Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam to act as CJ from April 9-16

DHAKA, April 09, 2026 (BSS) - Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam will act as Chief Justice (CJ) from April 9 to 16, during the Malaysia and Singapore visit of Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury.

"During this time, or till  Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury joins his office, Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam will observe the duty of Chief Justice of the country," said a Law and Justice Division notice.

Signed by Law and Justice Division Secretary Liaquet Ali Molla, the notice said Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam, the senior-most judge in the Appellate Division, has been granted the president's approval to perform the duties of the Chief Justice of Bangladesh in accordance with Article 97 of the Constitution.
