One more dies from measles, 1,187 infected

DHAKA, April 09, 2026 (BSS) - One person has died of measles in the country in the last 24 hours. 

Besides, six more people are suspected to have died of the disease, said a press release of control centre of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) here today.

According to the release, in the last 24 hours, 1,187 new suspected measles patients have been identified across the country and 642 laboratory-confirmed patients have been found.

The press release said that from March 15 to April 9, the total number of confirmed measles patients was 2,241 and the number of suspected measles cases was 12,320. Since March 15, 23 people have died of confirmed measles and 143 people have died of suspected measles. 

During this period, the highest number of 5,171 people suspected of measles was in Dhaka Division. Of these, 1,141 people have been confirmed to have measles.

The DGHS is continuously monitoring the situation apart from regularly collecting and analyzing information through the Integrated Control Centre. 

In addition to ensuring necessary medical care for patients, the people have been advised to remain vigilant.
