
FENI, April 9, 2026 (BSS) - The Department of Consumer Rights Protection has fined a local trader Taka 200,000 for illegally storing 50,000 liters of edible oil in the district.
A joint operation by the district administration, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), the Department of Consumer Rights Protection, and the Department of Food Safety was conducted to prevent an artificial edible oil crisis in the district.
According to sources, the drive was carried out in the edible oil markets on Takia Road and Islampur Road on Wednesday. During the operation, M/s Kabir & Sons was fined Taka 200,000 for packaging edible oil in an unsafe and unhygienic environment and for failing to preserve purchase vouchers. Executive Magistrate Chayan Barua of the district administration imposed the fine.
On the same day, M/s Haji Noor Ahmed & Sons was fined Taka 50,000 for not preserving purchase vouchers, selling open edible oil at arbitrary prices, and packaging it in unhygienic conditions.
RAB Assistant Director (Media) A.R.M. Mozaffar Hossain told BSS that the fine amounts have already been deposited into the government treasury.
Assistant Director of Consumer Rights Md. Asadul Islam said the fines were imposed under the Consumer Rights Protection Act and emphasized that such monitoring and enforcement activities will continue.
