DHAKA, April 09, 2026 (BSS)- Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon has said that current administration of the National University (NU) has undertaken a major initiative to reform its curriculum, placing emphasis on practical and job-oriented education.

“The major initiative to reform curriculum will mark an important milestone in the NU history,” he said.

The minister made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of a three-day “Curriculum Development Workshop” at the International Mother Language Institute in the capital.

The minister lauded former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia saying she established the NU in 1992 to address various challenges, crises and structural limitations in higher education management.

He said that most students of the National University come from middle- and lower-middle-class families.

Milon said, “Under the old and conventional syllabus, many students remain unemployed after completing higher education due to a lack of technical skills and proficiency in English.”

He said the curriculum has now been modernized and made more practical with the introduction of technical courses to equip students to face global challenges and succeed in an increasingly competitive environment.

Presiding over the event, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. A.S.M. Amanullah said due to insufficient investment in education after independence, the country still lags behind comparing many contemporary nations.

“Although delayed, now is the time to give education the priority it deserves,” he added.

Abdul Khaleque, Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division and Md Abdur Rafiq, Additional Secretary of the Information and Communication Technology Division, were present, among others, on the occasion.
