
DHAKA, April 9, 2025 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Kushtia Battalion (47 BGB), has destroyed a large quantity of narcotics worth over Taka 31.34 crore as part of its ongoing anti-drug drive.
The destruction was carried out this afternoon during the "Drug Destruction Program 2026" held at the Kushtia Battalion headquarters.
Jessore Region Commander Brigadier General Mahmudul Hasan (Service) was the chief guest.
At the beginning of the program, Kushtia Sector Commander Colonel Mohammad Iftekhar Hossain delivered the welcome address.
In his speech, the chief guest reaffirmed BGB's strong commitment to building a drug-free nation. He emphasized that under a "zero tolerance" policy, BGB personnel are working tirelessly day and night along the border to prevent drug trafficking.
He also highlighted that drug abuse is a complex and multidimensional social issue, stressing that alongside law enforcement agencies, active participation from all levels of society is essential to face the problem.
He called for increased public awareness and collective social resistance against drugs.
The chief guest praised the efficiency and professionalism of Kushtia Battalion members and officially inaugurated the destruction process.
According to BGB sources, from February 1, 2025 to March 15, 2026, various operations conducted along the border areas of Kushtia and Meherpur led to the seizure of narcotics and other smuggled goods worth approximately Taka 114.80 crore, along with the arrest of 175 individuals.
The destroyed items included 4,432 bottles of foreign liquor, 12 liters of local liquor, 7,787 bottles of Phensedyl, 550.4 kg of cannabis, 26.253 kg of heroin, 6.05 kg of cocaine, 67,496 yaba tablets, 10,137 Viagra tablets, 97,656 sildenafil tablets, 155,909 packets of bidi, 30 bottles of LSD, 1,476 Indian capsules, and 2,299 Indian injections.
The estimated value of the destroyed narcotics stood at Taka 31,34,97,995.
BGB continues to conduct regular to recover yaba and other deadly drugs. Such destruction programs are regularly organized in the presence of concerned authorities to raise awareness and strengthen social resistance against narcotics.
The event was attended by the Deputy Commissioner of Kushtia, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrates of Kushtia and Meherpur, Additional Superintendent of Police of Kushtia, other civil administration officers, and journalists from print and electronic media.
