Youth sentenced to 14-year rigorous imprisonment in arms case

KHULNA, April 9, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced a youth, Md. Shahidul Islam alias Mokmol, 23, to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment in an arms case.

Judge Chand Mohammad Abdul Alim Al Razi of the Khulna District and Sessions Judge Court pronounced the verdict in presence of the convict, Public Prosecutor Chowdhury Touhidur Rahman Tushar confirmed the matter.

According to court sources, members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-6) conducted a raid on the night of February 1, 2023, around 10.45 pm in Phultala upazila, aiming to recover narcotics and illegal arms.

Acting on a tip-off that several miscreants took position near the house of one Rabiul Islam Monu, west of Phultala R.E. Union School and College, the RAB team carried out a drive at about 11 pm.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, Shahidul Islam, son of Nizam Molla of Paygram area under Phultala upazila, attempted to flee but was caught. Upon searching his body, RAB members recovered two guns, including a locally made double-barrel gun, from a bag he was carrying.

Later that night, Md. Anowarul Islam, deputy director of RAB-6 filed a case under the Arms Act with Phultala Police Station.

On March 7 of the same year, the investigation officer, Sub-Inspector Shafiqul Islam of Phultala Police Station, submitted the charge sheet to the court-3 against the accused.
