DHAKA, April 9, 2026 (BSS) - To make the country’s fuel supply system more transparent, efficient, and modern, a QR code - based ‘Fuel Pass’ app has been launched on a pilot basis by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division.
The app has been introduced by the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) under the division at two filling stations in the capital. Initially, the pilot is being conducted for motorcycle owners and riders at Trust Filling Station in Tejgaon and Sonar Bangla Filling Station in Asadgate, according to a press release issued today by the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources.
If the pilot initiative proves successful, the ‘Fuel Pass’ app will gradually be expanded nationwide for all types of vehicles, said the press release.
It further said, through this proposed digital system, the entire fuel distribution process will come under full automation and real-time monitoring. It will be integrated with the central database of the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), bringing fuel distribution under a coordinated and transparent monitoring system.
Under the system, filling station owners will be able to digitally enter fuel allocations and distribute them to customers. Users will be able to receive fuel by scanning QR codes and also check their allocated quota.
Additionally, a central dashboard will help real-time monitoring of fuel supply and distribution across the country.
Even without a smart phone, citizens will be able to register through a website and download and print their QR codes for use.
The release also stated that the existing manual system often causes delays and various complications in fuel distribution. Despite adequate supply, long queues are frequently seen at many filling stations. Artificial shortages are also created when individuals collect more fuel than necessary by standing in line multiple times.
The initiative is expected to increase transparency, reduce irregularities and wastage, and ensure effective management during times of crisis.
The Energy and Mineral Resources Division expressed hope that with the cooperation of all stakeholders, the modern system can be expanded rapidly.
