RAJSHAHI, April 11, 2026 (BSS) - Dr Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, Prime Minister's Adviser on the Ministry of Finance and Planning, and Rehan Asif Asad, Adviser on Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and Science and Technology, have inspected ongoing projects of the Barind Multipurpose Development Authority (BMDA) in the district.
They visited Godagari upazila on Friday and inspected development activities, including irrigation using surface water from the Padma River to the Sormongla canal and irrigation management through a net metering system.
BMDA Executive Director Abu Sayeed Kamruzzaman was present.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Titumir said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is implementing election pledges for the welfare of the people. He said the government will distribute family cards, farmer cards, and excavate canals in different areas.
He expressed satisfaction over BMDA's activities, saying the organisation has transformed the northern region into a granary through modern agricultural practices.
He said BMDA is using canal water for cultivation, operating irrigation through solar power, supplying surplus electricity to the national grid and taking various farmer-friendly initiatives.
Adviser Rehan Asif Asad said the government has taken digital initiatives to modernise agriculture, including the introduction of the Farmer Cards to be launched on Pohela Baishakh.
He said the card will enable landless, small and marginal farmers to receive government subsidies, loans and agricultural inputs directly, ending the dominance of middlemen and ensuring fair prices.
The adviser added that agricultural production in the Barind region has increased from one crop to three crops, improving the living standards of farmers.
He said further initiatives will be taken to modernise agriculture and enhance farmers' livelihoods.
Earlier, the advisers planted tree saplings at Sormongla Eco Park.
