Coast guard seizes banned current nets worth Tk 139.29cr in Munshiganj

DHAKA, April 10, 2026 (BSS) – The Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) today seized a massive cache of banned current nets and thread reels, estimated to be worth about Tk 139.29 crore, during a special operation in Munshiganj.

BCG Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan confirmed the information.

He stated that, acting on a secret tip-off, a team from the Coast Guard Station Pagla conducted a raid at approximately 7am in the Durgabari and Sipahi Para areas, situated near Panchasar under the jurisdiction of the Munshiganj Sadar police station.

During the drive, the BCG personnel searched three net-making factories and two warehouses. 

The operation resulted in the recovery of 3 crore 97 lakh 45 thousand meters of illegal current nets and 30,000 pieces of thread reels used for manufacturing the prohibited nets. 

The total market value of the seized goods is estimated at Tk 139.29 crore.

The seized materials were later destroyed to prevent their use in illegal fishing activities.
 
Sabbir Alam Sujan further emphasized that the BCG will continue to conduct such operations in the future to protect the nation’s fishery resources from the harmful effects of illegal nets.
