DHAKA, April 11, 2026 (BSS) - BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today said the party will nominate candidates for reserved women's seats who have actively contributed to movements and struggles, possess the ability to speak in parliament and have a good reputation in society.
He made the remarks while speaking to reporters at the party's central office in Nayapaltan this morning.
Rizvi said around 500 nomination forms for reserved women's seats were sold yesterday, adding that distribution and submission of forms will continue until tomorrow.
He said BNP is following its established democratic process in selecting candidates, allowing interested individuals to collect nomination forms.
Aspirants will have to fill out the forms and submit them along with necessary documents for consideration, Rizvi said.
"We have had to struggle for a long time to create an environment for a free and fair election. This democratic space must be utilized to the fullest," he added.
Rizvi said people expect all political parties, including the ruling and opposition parties, to adhere to democratic norms and ensure accountability.
Highlighting women's contributions, he said women have played a significant role in past movements and struggles, with many facing arrest, repression and harassment for expressing independent views, including on social media.
He expressed hope that the party would nominate deserving women who have proven their role in movements, are capable of parliamentary participation and are respected in society.
