DHAKA, April 11, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh has imported an additional 8,000 metric tons of diesel from India through the Bangladesh-India Friendship Pipeline, official sources said here today.

The consignment has already reached the Parbatipur depot of Padma Oil Company Limited, the sources added.

Kazi Md. Robiul Alam, Manager (Operations) of the Meghna Petroleum Limited, told BSS that pumping of diesel from India’s Numaligarh Refinery began at midnight on April 7. The full shipment of 8,000 metric tons of diesel has arrived at the Parbatipur depot at midnight on Friday. Distribution of the imported diesel is currently underway.

He added that diesel import from India is an ongoing process. If all conditions remain favorable, import of another 5,000 metric tons of diesel will begin on April 17.

Md. Ahsan Habib Chowdhury, Deputy Manager (Operations) at the Parbatipur depot of Padma Oil PLC, confirmed that the 8,000 metric ton consignment was received last midnight. He said the depot currently has sufficient diesel stock.

Earlier, Bangladesh imported 10,000 metric tons of diesel in two shipments on March 11 and March 23 and another 7,000 metric tons on April 1 through the pipeline. A total of 25,000 metric tons of diesel has been imported from India in four phases, which includes the latest consignment.

It may be mentioned here that since 2021, refined diesel has been regularly imported into Bangladesh via pipeline from the Numaligarh Refinery in the Indian state of Assam.
