Social festival of ethnic communities celebrated at DU

DHAKA, April 12, 2026 (BSS)- The main social festival of the ethnic communities of the Chattogram Hill Tracts—‘Bijhu, Bishu, Bihu, Baisuk, Sangrai, Shangraing, Thanggren, Sangkran, Changkran and Pata’—was celebrated in a festive atmosphere at Dhaka University (DU) today. 

Various programmes, including a discussion, a colorful procession and floating flowers in the water, were organized at the university's Jagannath Hall.

DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr Saima Haque Bidisha inaugurated the programme, organised by the ‘Dhaka University Zoom Literary and Cultural Society’.

Jagannath Hall Provost Debashish Pal and Dhaka University Zoom Literary and Cultural Society Vice-President Shantimoy Chakma, among others, were present at the event.

A festive mood prevailed across the campus centring on this traditional hill community celebration.
