Traditional raft race marks Chaitra Sankranti at JU

JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, April 13, 2026 (BSS) – A traditional raft race was held at Jahangirnagar University (JU) on the occasion of Chaitra Sankranti 1432, with Shaheed Salam-Barkat Hall emerging as the champion.

The competition, organised by the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU), was inaugurated at 11:30 am today at the university’s Rong Pukur.

A total of 11 teams, each comprising two students from the residential male halls, participated in the event.

Shaheed Salam-Barkat Hall secured first place, while Nawab Salimullah Hall and A F M Kamaluddin Hall finished second and third respectively.

The presence of a large number of teachers and students made the event festive and lively.

JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Kamrul Ahsan attended the programme as the chief guest and expressed his delight over the event.

He said such creative initiatives not only provide entertainment but also play a vital role in preserving the country’s rich cultural heritage.

JUCSU Vice-President Abdur Rashid Zitu said the success of the programme was largely due to the sincere participation of the residential halls, adding that students’ enthusiasm made the event vibrant.

Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Prof Dr M Mahfuzur Rahman, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Prof Dr Sohel Ahmed, JUCSU General Secretary Mazharul Islam, and deans of different faculties, among others, were present at the programme.
