Pahela Boishakh celebrated with colorful arrangements at RU

RAJSHAHI, April 14, 2026 (BSS) – A day-long colorful programme was held at Rajshahi University (RU) as part of the celebration of Bengali New Year 1433 today. 

On the occasion of Pahela Baishakh, a festive atmosphere prevailed across the university campus, where the spontaneous participation of teachers, students, officials, and staff brought the entire campus to life.
 
Vice-Chancellor Professor Faridul Islam formally inaugurated the New Year celebration at 9 am at an event organized at the open stage on the Fine Arts premises. 

Also present at the time were Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Mohammad Main Uddin, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) Professor Farid Uddin Khan, Treasurer Professor Md. Matiar Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts Professor Mohammad Ali, and Proctor Professor Mahbubur Rahman, along with other relevant officials.

Following the inauguration, the traditional ‘Baishakhi Shovajatra’ began at 10 am. 
The procession, started from the Fine Arts premises, paraded through the main roads of the campus.
 Alongside top university administration officials, a large number of teachers and students joined the event carrying colorful masks, banners, and festoons.
 
As part of the New Year celebrations, the Sports and Athletics Department of the Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RUCSU) organized traditional rural ‘metho khela’ (field games) at the Martyred Intellectuals Square. 

RUCSU President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Faridul Islam, Treasurer Professor Setaur Rahman, Vice-President Mostakur Rahman Jahid, and General Secretary Salauddin Ammar were present.

The event was presided over by RUCSU Sports and Athletics Secretary Nargis Khatun.

Additionally, in the evening, a captivating cultural programme titled ‘Loksure Noboborsho’ (New Year in Folk Tunes) was organized by RUCSU’s Cultural Affairs Department at the Shahid Minar open stage.

On the occasion of Pahela Baishakh, various departments and socio-cultural organizations of the university also took part in the festivities through their own day-long programmes, turning the entire campus into a grand gathering.
