DIS begins journey at JU to support physically challenged students

JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, April 15, 2026 (BSS) - The Jahangirnagar University
(JU) chapter of Doors for Inclusive Society (DIS) formally launched its
activities today, aiming to support physically challenged students on campus.

JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan inaugurated the
activities at the Wazed Miah Science Research Centre seminar room today at
noon.

Speaking at the event, the VC said physical ability may help a person move
from one place to another, but reaching higher levels of knowledge and
morality requires inner strength.

He noted that individuals facing physical challenges often demonstrate deeper
insight and understanding, adding that physical disability is not a barrier
to becoming a complete human being.

He also reaffirmed the university's commitment to transforming JU into a
disability-friendly institution, mentioning that work on accessible footpaths
and roads are currently underway.

Chairman of the Government and Politics Department Professor Dr. Nurul Huda
Sakib, Professor Dr. K M Mohiuddin, Associate Professor of Urban and Regional
Planning Department Dr. Afsana Haque, JUCSU Vice-President Abdur Rashid Zitu,
AGS Ferdous Al Hasan, among others, attended the event. Leaders of DIS,
including its President S M Ferdous Alam, JU Physically Challenged
Development Foundation (PDF) President Jahidul Islam, and newly formed DIS JU
chapter members were also present.

With the support of PDF, DIS introduced a Braille-based Qur'an learning
course and distributed scholarships, smart phones and white canes among
students, alongside gifts for volunteers.
