FARIDPUR, April 17, 2026 (BSS) - Prime Minister's Adviser on Finance and Planning Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir said the government is actively working to reduce regional disparities in development, stressing that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has placed public welfare at the top of the national agenda.
Speaking at an exchange of views on regional development at the deputy commissioner's conference room in Faridpur, Titumir noted that the Prime Minister prioritizes practical action over rhetoric.
He highlighted that, particularly during the current challenging period, the government has consistently focused on improving people's welfare through concrete initiatives.
Titumir pointed out that, at the first cabinet meeting, the Prime Minister announced a waiver of farm loans up to Tk 10,000 for farmers and fishermen. Additionally, a "family card" program was introduced within a month of forming the government to support vulnerable groups.
He further said balanced regional development is a key objective, with coordination meetings already held in Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions as part of this effort.
Employment generation remains the central concern, he said, criticizing previous economic approaches for failing to create sufficient job opportunities.
Among others present at the meeting were State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam, lawmakers from five neighboring constituencies, deputy commissioners, and local and central leaders of BNP and its affiliated organizations.
