DHAKA, April 17, 2026 (BSS) - Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam tonight inaugurated the "Road to Makkah" initiative at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA), aiming to streamline pre-departure procedures for Hajj pilgrims and ensure smoother travel to Saudi Arabia.

State Minister Md Rashiduzzaman Millat and Saudi Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr Abdullah ibn Dhafer ibn Ubayya were present at the inauguration held at 9:00 pm.

Following the launch, the minister and the state minister exchanged floral greetings with the pilgrims and sought their prayers.

The "Road to Makkah" initiative, introduced by Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, enables pilgrims to complete immigration, passport verification and health checks in their home country prior to departure, significantly easing travel procedures.
