DP World proposal under careful scrutiny: Shipping Minister

CHATTOGRAM, April 18, 2026 (BSS) - Shipping Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam today said the government has not yet taken any final decision on a potential agreement with DP World, stressing that national interests remain the top priority.

He said a detailed assessment is underway to ensure the protection of the country's interests, people and economy while reviewing the proposal.

The minister made the remarks while visiting the Patenga Container Terminal, Bay Terminal and Laldia areas of Chattogram Port in the afternoon.

Rabiul Alam said he has held several meetings with the Prime Minister regarding the proposed deal with DP World.

Expressing optimism, the minister said a decision that benefits the national economy, ports and the general public would be made soon.

State Minister for Shipping Md. Rajib Ahsan, Shipping Secretary Zakaria, Chairman of the Chattogram Port Authority Rear Admiral Md. Moniruzzaman and other senior officials were present during the visit.
