Bangladesh chairs key session at ESCAP in Bangkok

DHAKA, April 22, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh assumed a leading role at the 82nd session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific as Faqir Mahbub Anam, Adviser for Science and Technology and Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, chaired a morning session in Bangkok.

The 82nd session of ESCAP is being held in Bangkok from April 20 to 24, 2026 under the theme 'Leaving no one behind: advancing a society for all ages in Asia and the Pacific.'

The session featured high-level policy discussions and country interventions on advancing inclusive and sustainable development across the Asia-Pacific region, an official handout said today.

On the sidelines, the Adviser held a bilateral meeting with the delegation of Kazakhstan, led by Rostislav Konyashkin, First Vice-Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development.

The two sides discussed cooperation in artificial intelligence, e-governance, digital transformation and innovation.

Both sides welcomed mutual support for ESCAP resolutions on establishing a digital solutions centre for sustainable development and supporting the transition towards a sustainable bioeconomy in countries in Asia and the Pacific.

The Adviser also attended a high-level side event organized by Kazakhstan and ESCAP titled 'Advancing Trusted AI in Asia and the Pacific: From National Leadership to Regional Solutions,' highlighting Bangladesh's growing interest in the trusted and responsible use of artificial intelligence.

During the visit, the Adviser went to the Embassy of Bangladesh in Bangkok, where he interacted with officials and staff.
