
DINAJPUR, May 26, 2026 (BSS) - Social Welfare, Women and Children Affairs Minister Prof Dr AZM Zahid Hossain today said the government’s goal is to transform the students into skilled workforce through modern and quality education.
He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a cheque distribution programme for the underprivileged, helpless, sick, disabled people and poor students at Ghoraghat Upazila Parishad auditorium here this afternoon.
“If a good person possesses proper knowledge and skills, there is no reason for him or her to fall behind. We want good people and quality education. Through the education, we want to turn every boy and girl in the area into qualified and skilled manpower,” he added.
He said that the present government’s primary objective is to transform the population into valuable human resources.
“In a society where good people are in leadership and their numbers increase, injustice will decline and a beautiful, disciplined and humane Bangladesh will emerge,” he said.
Highlighting the government support for economically disadvantaged people, he said, “We are trying to extend some assistance to those facing financial hardship. This is part of that effort.”
The event was chaired by Acting Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Abdul Al Mamun Kawsar Sheikh.
Among others, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Solaiman Mehdi Hasan, Assistant Superintendent of Police of the Ghoraghat-Hakimpur Circle Md. Haris Uddin, Upazila Social Services Officer Md. Masud Rana, Ghoraghat Upazila BNP President SM Shamim Hossain Chowdhury, its General Secretary Md. Abu Sayeed Mia, Municipal BNP President Abdus Sattar Molin and its General Secretary Md. Moktar Hossain were present at the function.
After the programme, 200 underprivileged men and women of Chakbamunia Bishwanathpur village under Ghoraghat Upazila received 15 kilograms of rice each, while 100 people were provided Taka 1,000 each as Eid assistance.
Earlier, the minister distributed special grant cheques totaling Taka 1.25 million among 33 students, five helpless and sick individuals and five persons with disabilities at the upazila parishad auditorium.
