DHAKA, May 26, 2026 (BSS) - The government has taken special measures to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply across the country during Eid-ul-Azha.

The Power Division has said it has ensured round-the-clock monitoring of power generation, transmission and distribution systems, while emergency repair teams have been kept on standby to respond quickly to any disruption.

Power Division Secretary Mirana Mahrukh told BSS that all necessary measures have been taken to maintain uninterrupted electricity supply during the Eid holidays. 

She said distribution companies have been instructed accordingly, and the ministry is directly monitoring the overall situation.

Officials said adequate generation capacity has been kept ready to meet the expected rise in electricity demand during the Eid period. 

Power plants have been directed to operate at optimum capacity to maintain stability in the national grid.

Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) Member (Generation) Md Johurul Islam said electricity demand during Eid is expected to be around 12,000-13,000 megawatts. Some units are under scheduled maintenance, while fuel-based plants are also being operated to meet peak demand.

He added that online coordination meetings are being held with distribution companies, while field engineers have been deployed in four BPDB zones to ensure quick response in case of storms or technical faults.

The BPDB said that as industrial and commercial demand usually falls during Eid holidays, stable electricity supply in residential areas becomes easier to maintain. Vulnerable transmission lines and substations have already been inspected and maintained.

Special control rooms will remain operational before and after Eid, with engineers, linemen and technical teams on standby for emergency response.

The Power Division has also instructed senior officials of all agencies to monitor electricity conditions in their respective areas during the holiday period and submit reports to the ministry.

Distribution companies including Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC), Dhaka Electric Supply Company (DESCO), Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) and Northern Electricity Supply Company (NESCO) have formed special monitoring teams.

The Power Division has urged consumers to avoid unnecessary electricity use and advised prepaid meter users to complete recharges in advance.
