Kayser Kamal for preserving Hajong language, improving livelihoods

NETROKONA, July 21, 2026 (BSS) - Deputy Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Barrister Kayser Kamal today said the present government is sincerely working to improve the living standards of Hajong community and other ethnic groups and preserve their mother tongues. 

“Books in the Hajong language will be published, and temple-based Hajong language education programmes will be launched so that the new generation does not forget the Hajong language,” he said while speaking as the chief guest at a development assistance distribution event at the Kalmakanda Upazila Parishad auditorium in the district this afternoon. 

The event was held under the 'Development Assistance for Special Areas' programme implemented by the Prime Minister's Office, aimed at improving the livelihoods of ethnic minorities, expanding education, and creating self-employment opportunities.

Kalmakanda Upazila Executive Officer (Acting) Md. Shamsuzzaman Asif presided over the event.

Kayser Kamal called for moving forward with everyone as equal-rights citizens, rather than labeling ethnic minorities as 'backward.' 

During the event, he distributed bicycles among 42 meritorious students from ethnic minority communities and sewing machines among 28 trained women. 

Furthermore, cash stipends were provided to students Tk 3,000 each to 141 students from classes 1 to 5, Tk 5,000 each to 85 students from classes 6 to 10, and Tk 7,000 each to 57 students from classes 11 to 12. Additionally, the Deputy Speaker handed over new homesteads to nine ethnic minority families.

Additional District Magistrate (revenue) Sukhmoy Sarkar, officials and employees from various departments of the upazila administration, local representatives, ethnic minority leaders, media personnel, and local dignitaries took part in the event.
