
DHAKA, July 21, 2026 (BSS) - Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Minister Prof. Dr. A Z M Zahid Hossain today stressed the need for establishing quality, advanced and modern medical education institutions across the country to improve healthcare services.
He made the remarks while addressing a memorial meeting at Dr. Milon Hall of Bangladesh Medical University (BMU), organised in memory of the university's former teacher and valiant freedom fighter Professor Dr. Mohammad Abdul Quddus.
Zahid Hossain said the government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is working to fulfil its election pledges and move the country forward through development in different sectors, including healthcare.
He said initiatives are underway to further develop Bangladesh Medical University into a centre of excellence where patients receive quality treatment and leave with satisfaction.
Paying tribute to Professor Abdul Quddus, the minister described him as a fearless, dedicated and compassionate physician who always stood beside people in times of need.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Husain, BMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. F M Siddiqui and other senior health professionals also addressed the event.
