RAJSHAHI, May 30, 2026 (BSS)- Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu has said that Bangladesh's independence was not achieved by sitting at a table like India and Pakistan.

The independence struggle of the honest and courageous Bengali nation was led by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.

He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion meeting this noon, on the occasion of the 45th martyrdom anniversary of BNP founder and former president Ziaur Rahman.

The discussion meeting was organized by Rajshahi District BNP at Moonlight Convention Centre in Rajshahi city.

The Land Minister said the greatest ornament of BNP leaders and activists is honesty.

During the long rule of the Awami League, countless leaders and activists of the party were subjected to torture and oppression.

Many were forced to flee their homes and remain in hiding, living for months separated from their families. Many others had to go to jail.

He said the BNP must be built into a stronger organization by upholding this history of sacrifice and struggle.

He said everyone must work together, setting aside personal and organizational differences, to fulfill the expectations of the people.

He called on leaders and activists at every level of the party to play a responsible role, giving the highest priority to national interests.

Special guests who spoke included District BNP convener Abu Sayeed Chand MP, BNP Secretary for Forest and Environment Affairs Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul, Co-Secretary for Relief and Rehabilitation Advocate Shafiqul Haque Milon, MP, and Nazrul Islam Mondol, MP.

Leaders and activists of the BNP and its affiliated bodies were present at the meeting.

The programmme highlighted various aspects of martyred President Ziaur Rahman's political life, his role in the Liberation War, and his contributions to establishing democracy in the country.

A special prayer and munajat were also offered seeking forgiveness for his departed soul.
