
DHAKA, June 16, 2026 (BSS) - A coordination meeting of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on security, law and order, and traffic management in the capital was held to ensure the smooth observance of the holy Ashura and the proper implementation of Tazia (mourning) procession programmes scheduled for June 26.
Chaired by DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed, the meeting was held at DMP Headquarters at 11 am, an official release said here today.
At the meeting, the DMP Commissioner said all stakeholders must perform their duties in a coordinated manner to ensure the smooth implementation of all programmes marking the holy Ashura.
"Vigilant monitoring must be maintained to prevent anyone from creating disorder or deteriorating the law and order situation.
Carrying sharp weapons, including machetes, knives, sickles, spears, swords and sticks, during the procession will be prohibited, while the use of fireworks and firecrackers will also not be allowed," he said.
The DMP commissioner further stated the entire area of the Imambara in Hussaini Dalan will remain under CCTV surveillance.
It also said to prevent any untoward incidents, the whole area will be swept by the dog squad and through manual checking. Visitors will be searched at entry points using archways and metal detectors.
Besides uniformed police personnel, plainclothes officers will also be deployed, he added, assuring that the Dhaka Metropolitan Police would remain fully prepared to ensure overall security of the programmes.
At the beginning of the coordination meeting, DMP Joint Commissioner (Operations) Mohammad Shahidullah, presented the overall security plan through a PowerPoint presentation.
To ensure security during the Ashura programmes, representatives of the organisers, various intelligence agencies, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Dhaka North and South City Corporations, Dhaka WASA, Fire Service and other government service-providing agencies, along with senior DMP officials, shared their views at the meeting.
