Govt working to heighten Bangladesh’s position in global sports stage: Habibur

DHAKA, June 21, 2026 (BSS)- State Minister for Railways Habibur Rashid today said the present government is working to ensure that Bangladesh's sports sector can stand tall in the global arena.

The current government is working for the socio-economic development of the country alongside infrastructure development. As part of this, the government has made sports compulsory in primary schools from Class-4 to advance the country's sports sector and enlighten the national image in the global arena,” he said.

He made the remarks while addressing as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of a fun football tournament for children and teenagers at Basabo Field here this afternoon.

The state minister said that people elected BNP hoping to build a better Bangladesh for the future.

"We will build a better Bangladesh for the future through sincere and collective efforts. We will remain united for the sake of democracy, development and the country's continued progress,” he said.

He added that a prosperous Bangladesh for future generations will be built through the combined efforts of all.

The tournament is being arranged by the Bangladesh Sports Club Association.

Local dignitaries and leaders of the association were present at the opening ceremony of the tournament.

After the speech, the state minister exchanged greetings with the child and teenage footballers and encouraged them.
