DHAKA, July 15, 2026 (BSS) - The University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh Chairman Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed today said all universities in the country would be brought under digital transformation within the next two years to ensure equitable access to quality higher education.
He made the announcement while addressing the 20th University Day and Freshers' Reception of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University as the chief guest.
Dr. Mamun said uninterrupted high-speed internet connectivity would be ensured at all universities in the first phase, followed by the development of digital classrooms, technology-based educational infrastructure and smart campuses.
He said the initiative would help bridge the digital divide between universities in the capital and those in remote areas, enabling teachers and students nationwide to access international-standard education, research and digital knowledge resources.
The UGC chairman said the government has increased the revenue and development budgets for public universities in the current fiscal year as part of its efforts to advance digital transformation and build a skilled workforce.
He also stressed giving top priority to merit and competence in university recruitment to make Bangladeshi graduates globally competitive.
Presiding over the programme, Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Musharof Hossain said around 11,000 students are studying in 25 departments under six faculties of the university.
He sought UGC support for opening new science departments, recruiting teachers and improving infrastructure to expand academic activities.
