CHITTAGONG UNIVERSITY, July 21, 2026 (BSS) - Chittagong University (CU) will organize a day-long seminar and cultural programme tomorrow in observance of 'Nazrul Year' and the 127th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.

The programme will begin at 10:00 am, CU Pro-VC (Admin) and Convener of the Nazrul Year Celebration Committee Prof. Dr. Md. Safiqul Islam told a press conference at his office this afternoon.

The event will open with a seminar titled "National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam: Patriotism, Humanism and Mass Awakening." Former CU Bangla Department professor Dr. Mohammad Nurul Amin will present the keynote paper.

CU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mohammad Al-Forkan will attend the seminar as the chief guest, while Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Dr. Mohammed Al-Amin will be present as the special guest.

The discussion session will feature Bangla Department Chairman Prof. Dr. Mohammod Anwar Sayed, Prof. Dr. Taslima Begum and Director of the CU Nazrul Research Centre Prof. Mohammad Farid Uddin.

The second session will include a cultural programme featuring noted Nazrul Sangeet artiste Ferdous Ara. Students from the university's Department of Dramatics and Department of Music will also perform.

Addressing the press conference, Director of the Nazrul Research Centre Prof. Mohammad Farid Uddin said Nazrul first visited Chattogram in 1926, making this year's observance a commemoration of the centenary of his arrival in the port city.

Responding to a question on expanding the activities and budget of the CU Nazrul Research Centre, Pro-VC Dr. Safiqul Islam said the university would strengthen the centre, enhance its research activities and discuss increasing its budget with the Vice-Chancellor.

Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration Prof. Dr. Mohammad Saleh Jahur, Bangla Department Chairman Prof. Dr. Mohammod Anwar Sayed, Dramatics Department Chairman Fahmida Sultana Tanjee and Music Department Chairman Miskatul Mumtaz were present, among others.
