Indictment hearing in case against suspended assistant commissioner Urmi Feb 4

DHAKA, Jan 26, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today set February 4 for holding a
hearing on charge framing in a case filed against suspended assistant
commissioner Tapasi Tabassum Urmi for making derogatory remarks about Abu
Sayed and other martyrs of student-led July-August mass uprising.
 
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah passed the order, allowing a time
plea filed by the accused's counsel. The court also allowed a bail plea filed
by Tapasi Tabassum Urmi.
 
Gono Adhikar Parishad higher council member Abu Hanif filed the case on
October 8, 2024.
 
The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Zakir Hossain after recording the
statement of the complainant, summoned the accused on November 28. Urmi
surrendered before the court on that day and pleaded for bail. The court
after holding a hearing on her plea, allowed her bail on Taka 500 bond.
 
Tapasi Tabassum Urmi on October 5, made a Facebook post from her account,
making derogatory remarks about not only the martyrs of the July-August mass
uprising but also the chief adviser of the interim government. She was made
OSD the next day and was suspended on October 7.
