Pori Moni indicted, arrest warrant issued in assault case

DHAKA, Jan 26, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today framed charges against actress Pori Moni in a case lodged by businessman Nasir Uddin Mahmud on the charges of vandalizing and threatening and assaulting him.

Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Zunaid passed the order, initiating the trial officially. The court also issued arrest warrant against the actress as she failed to appear before it for the hearing today.

Confirming the matter to BSS, Pori Moni's counsel Nilanjana Surovi Rifat said the actress could not appear before the court on health ground, making the defence to plea for time. Scrapping the defence plea, the court framed charges in the case and issued arrest warrant against her.

Nasir Uddin Mahmud filed the case against three, including Pori Moni, on July 6, 2022, for vandalizing Dhaka Boat Club on June 9, 2021, threatening and assaulting him after boozing there without paying the bills and attempting to murder him.

Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) on March 18, 2024, filed its report before the court, saying they have found evidences against the two accused - Pori Moni and Zunaid Bagdadi Jimmy. They, however, gave clean chit to another accused Fatema Tuz Jannat Bonny.
