DHAKA, Jan 26, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee Member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury today said the next general election should be held quickly to transfer the country's ownership to the people.

"There is no scope to flourish the democracy without returning the country's ownership to the people. So, holding the general election should not be delayed. If delayed, confusion may arise among the people and democracy may fall," he said.

He made the remarks at a discussion tiled "The Role of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman in establishing Multi-party Democracy and Sovereign Independent Country" at the Abdus Salam Hall of Jatiya Press Club, organized by the National People's Party (NPP).

The senior BNP leader reminded all that the student-people forced the fascist Awami League government to go away to return the country's ownership to its real owner, the countrymen.

"So, the people will decide how the country will be governed, "he said.

Khosru stressed the need for quick formation of the government and parliament elected by the people.

"There is no scope to think otherwise. If anyone thinks of grabbing the state power like Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, then it will be wrong. Because, the countrymen will not accept it," he said.

NPP Chairman Fariduzzaman Forhad presided over the discussion. Jatiya Ganotantrik Party (JAGPA) President Khandoker Lutfor Rahman, Ganodal Chairman ATM Golam Mawla, NDP Chairman Abu Taher and top leaders from the National People's Party (NPP) and BNP's like-minded parties, were present.
