Court orders to preserve seized currencies, gold of SK Sur in BB vault

DHAKA, Jan 28, 2025(BSS) - The Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court today instructed the concerned authorities to preserve the foreign curries and gold ornaments of former Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank Sitangshu Kumar (SK) Sur Chowdhury in the vault of Bangladesh Bank (BB). 

Md Zakir Hossain Galib, judge of the court, passed the order following a petition submitted by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The foreign currencies and gold ornaments were seized by the ACC from his lockers at Bangladesh Bank.

ACC Lawyer Mahmud Hossain Jahangir told BSS that ACC Deputy Director Nazmul Hussain prayed to the court to preserve the foreign currencies including US dollars, Euros and gold ornaments at an appropriate place or the government treasury. 

The ACC lawyer moved the petition before the court on behalf of the anti-graft body. The court after hearing the arguments of the ACC lawyer passed the order.

On January 22, the court ordered to seize the lockers of the former Deputy Governor and the ACC officials seized 55,000 Euros, 1,69,300 US dollars, 1005 grams of gold and Fixed Deposit Records (FDR) worth about Taka 70 lakhs from his lockers of the central bank on January 26 last.

On January 14, a team of the ACC with the help of the Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested SK Sur Chowdhury from city’s Segun Bagicha area. He was also later sent to the jail on that day.
